Keeping everyone safe at Trout ‘n’ About 2026

Trout 'n' About is one of Hampshire's best-loved community events, welcoming around 10,000 visitors to Stockbridge each summer. The safety of everyone who attends – visitors, exhibitors, volunteers, entertainers and local residents – is at the heart of everything we do.

Planning for the festival begins many months in advance, with safety and security forming a key part of our preparations. We work closely with Test Valley Borough Council, Hampshire Police, the emergency services and other partner organisations to ensure the event is carefully planned and managed.

Security Planning

The Government has introduced Martyn's Law - The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 - to strengthen public safety at publicly accessible venues and events. Although the legislation is being introduced in stages, the Trout 'n' About committee has always recognised the importance of thorough event planning and regularly reviews its safety procedures in line with current guidance and best practice.

For security reasons, we do not publish the full details of our operational arrangements. However, visitors can be assured that they include:

  • A detailed event safety management plan.

  • Professional security personnel operating throughout the festival.

  • Specialist security measures, including detection dogs before and during the event.

  • Qualified first aid and medical teams available throughout the day.

  • Comprehensive briefings for volunteers and event staff, including emergency procedures.

  • Close liaison with Test Valley Borough Council, Hampshire Police and other emergency service partners before and during the event.

If You Need Help

Our volunteer stewards, security staff and first aid teams are easily identifiable and will be happy to assist if you need help during the day.

If you see anything that doesn't look right or causes concern, please report it immediately to the nearest steward, security officer or police officer.

By staying alert and looking out for one another, we can all help make Trout 'n' About 2026 a safe, welcoming and enjoyable day for everyone.
