Heartwood Vets opened its doors for the first time less than seven months ago - but it’s already a Trout ’n’ About Rainbow Sponsor.

The independent veterinary clinic specialises in treating cats and dogs and is run by Dr Lucy Evans and her husband James, on Stockbridge Road, at Sparshalt.

The couple - who have two small children, two chihuahuas, one puppy and a cat - have leased a section of the former garage and offices at Balldown Business Centre.

James - who used to pilot Apache attack helicopters in the Army Air Corps - said: “We spent November and December of last year renovating the building and opened on January 5.

“Lucy is the vet - I’m just the support act. But it’s been a full-on period. And we’re really enjoying building the business.”

Heartwood has nine staff, including a team of experienced veterinary nurses. The practice operates a full laboratory with xray and ultrasound facilities.

It prides itself on operating a transparent pricing system - and offering quotes before carrying out complex or substantial work. It is also a Rainbow Sponsor of Stockbridge T ’n’ A 2026.

“We’re very proud to be able to support Trout ‘n’ About,” said James.

“It’s obviously a great community event. Lucy and some of her team will be there on the day - and they’ll be very excited to meet people and answer their questions.”

Dr Lucy was inspired to become a vet by her granddad John Tandy, who co-founded one of Britain’s first veterinary hospitals for domestic pets, at Rutland House in Lancashire.
