Full page ads that bleed off the page:

• 148mm W x 210mm H (plus 3mm bleed required and crop marks)

Half page ads set in the margins:

• 132mm W x 96mm H

Quarter page adverts set in the margins:

• 64.5mm W x 96mm H

Accepted formats

• Print ready PDF (preferred)

• High resolution (300dpi) JPEG set to CMYK

• Your logo

• An image or two depending on your message (unless you want it to be purely typographic)

• A typeface (font) associated with your business.

• Your copy/wording

The bigger the file the better. Simply put, you need lots of pixels. You can view the file size on your computer, select the file in question and using the right click function select ‘get info’. If an image is 50 x 50 pixels it’s physically tiny.

Look for above 1000 x 1000. As a rule if the file is above 2mb (megabytes) in file size it stands a good chance of being okay to use for small ads.

If it’s only 400kb (kilobytes) it’s probably been taken from a website and will be too small to use for print

The most well known graphics software package available is www.adobe.com you could download it and possibly try it for free if you have a desktop computer or laptop, there are plenty of YouTube tutorials available too.

The thing NOT to do is use Microsoft Word. It’s not built for pictures or generating visually creative content. Alternatively explore www.canva.com

Once your design is complete please export or save your artwork as a Print Ready PDF.

You can create a PDF file from most programs now, and it’s easiest file for the printers to use. When saving your PDF you can select to include bleed, you can also ensure the resolution you want to save the file at, this needs to be 300dpi.

For those choosing a full page advert you need to create a file with bleed. This means the artwork will bleed over the edge of the page, we need a bleed of 3mm. When the artwork is printed, it’s printed on a larger oversized sheet then trimmed down to the right size. If you don’t allow for a bleed your artwork might end up not running to edge of the page and have a white gap.
